We all know that the best foods to take in when we want to lose weight are healthy fats, whole grains and lean meats. These ingredients load us with protein and energy. They keep our bodies nicely balanced nutritionally but don't stuff us full of empty calories that will later have to be burned off at the gym. Are you aware, however, that some of the foods you've been thinking are fine for your diet plan could actually be making you retain weight? They might even be keeping you from slimming down altogether! Here are some of the foods which may be undermining your diet attempts.

Sports Drinks are not helping you at all. You've possibly been thinking that the sports drink is the best way to help your whole body feel greater after a workout. Most medical doctors concur, however, that if your exercise routine is shorter than ninety minutes, drinking water should be fine. Sports drinks could completely undermine your diet program because they are filled to the brim with sugar, empty calories and artificial colors and flavors. Choose chocolate milk for your beverage instead. Your body uses the sugar within the chocolate for muscle mass repair and everyone knows how good milk is for you.

Skip that protein shakes. So many people assume that drinking a protein shake is a good way to end cravings when it isn't meal time. When you're eating an usually healthy diet, however, a protein shake merely sends you into protein overdose. Contrary to popular thinking, protein isn't going to get saved as muscle, it gets stored as fat. If you've already consumed your daily allotment of protein that day, your whole body will just save the extra in your fat cells for later and that won't enable you to drop pounds or inches.

Pre-packaged deli meat is not really healthy at all. It's typically thought that a sandwich constructed of whole grain bread and lean pre-packaged deli meat is a pretty good lunch time item. Actually, pre-packaged deli meat has far too many preservatives as well as sodium (one portion contains about a third of the amount of sodium you should eat in a day). This is often particularly dangerous if you are at risk for heart disease. Instead of getting the pre-packaged stuff, you ought to instead use home cooked poultry or freshly sliced meat from your grocery store's deli counter. Sure they are the more expensive options but they are rather a lot healthier for you.

There are all kinds of things that we assume will help us lose weight: eating a whole wheat bagel in the morning, for example is actually a lot worse for you than a bowl of oatmeal with some cinnamon sprinkled into it for flavor. Ask a medical expert which food items are right for you and then eat those. If you are cautious about what you eat and treat your body well, losing weight should not be that big of an issue for you!
